Prime Minister Taro Aso told reporters, Sunday, at the first press conference of the year, that he will not dissolve the House of Representatives until his top priorities to pass the budgets and related bills through the Diet. Aso decided to convene this year’s ordinary Diet session yesterday, earlier than usual; Ordinary Diet sessions usually convene in late January. He and his government have consider to secure the quick passage of the second supplementary budget of the fiscal 2008, the budge of the fiscal 2009, and other related bills. “It is clear implementing economic measures is what we need to do,” said Aso who also mentioned government’s intensions to raise the consumption tax to cover increasing social security cost. He said, “In Japan, to continue providing the current mid-level social welfare services, we must ask the public to bear a mid-level financial burden.” Aso expects to recover the lowering approval rate to the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, with his budget proposal including economic boosting measures, and has been looking for the best timing for the general election of the Lower House. The current term of the house will end in September. He knows there is an opinion in the LDP, led by Yoshimi Watanabe, to prompt the dissolution. Also, media reports say there are voices within ruling bloc saying that they cannot fight and win the next election under the Aso’s leadership. The prime minster has the ultimate right to decide when to dissolve the Lower House. Opinion Dissolve the house as soon as possible!!!
